The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce gathered with local community members to cut a ribbon for Ecumenical Ministries' new food pantry in Foley!
The Elizabeth "Betty" Koehler Somers Memorial Food Pantry is the latest addition to the array of services offered by Ecumenical Ministries, a dedicated nonprofit social service organization that works tirelessly to assist low-income families across Baldwin County. Ecumenical Ministries is committed to "addressing the urgent financial and material needs of our clients and providing a hopeful path to self-sufficiency and long-term economic stability." The organization's comprehensive range of services includes rent and utility assistance, medical care, transportation, and food security. Additionally, Ecumenical Ministries operates a thrift store that helps raise funds to support these vital programs.
The Memorial Food Pantry, created through a donation through Betty Somers' estate, is stocked with non-perishable items donated by generous families, churches, schools, and individuals. In a continued effort to provide nourishing support, Ecumenical Ministries has forged partnerships with local farmers, grocers, and restaurants to offer fresh produce, fruits, and baked goods to those in need. This collaborative effort ensures that families in Baldwin County have access to both shelf-stable and fresh food options, helping them through difficult times with compassion and care.
"We are so thrilled to have this pantry here," says Margaret Calhoun, South Baldwin Director at Ecumenical Ministries. "We've been looking forward to this for a very long time."
